SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — A large industrial fire broke out Saturday morning at a tire disposal facility in West Virginia, authorities said.
The blaze broke out at about 5:30 a.m. EST at West Virginia Tire Disposal, which is located near Summersville, WDTV-TV reported.
Multiple fire departments and emergency services were called in to fight the fire, including units from Summersville, Richwood, Craigsville, Nettie, Mount Lookout and Belle, WCHS-TV reported.
It took crews nearly eight hours to battle the flames and bring the fire under control, according to WDTV. There were no injuries, the television station reported.
West Virginia Tire Disposal operates the largest waste tire-specific disposal facility in West Virginia, according to the company’s website. The company said it receives millions of tires annually for recycling and disposal.
Summersville Fire Chief Rodney Snodgress said he expected the fire to burn for several days, since the tires are buried more than 80 feet deep, WSAZ-TV reported.
“They’ve even got an excavation crew up there right now that is putting dirt on it, trying to smother as much of it as they can,” Snodgress told the television station.
Firefighters will resume fighting the fire at 9 a.m. EST on Sunday, according to WSAZ.
