JERUSALEM — A couple has been arrested after a man died in a pool sinkhole in Israel.
According to The Associated Press, a couple has been placed under house arrest on Friday after a man who was attending a party at their villa died. He was “sucked into a sinkhole” that was formed in their pool.
The AP said that the couple, both in their sixties, was hosting a private party at their home southeast of Tel Aviv when the sinkhole appeared. Video from the scene, according to the AP, showed water being sucked to the bottom in the center of the pool. A man was shown getting close to it, slipped and was almost pulled in.
The deceased man, 30, was found as police and emergency crews conducted a search, according to the AP. Israeli media reported that there were about 50 people at the party and six of them were in the pool. The Israeli media also reported that the homeowner had allegedly built the pool without getting any proper licensing to do so, said the AP.
Israeli police say the couple is suspected of causing death by negligence, according to the AP. They were arrested Thursday evening and were released by a court on Friday to serve their house arrest for five days.
