One month after Chrissy Teigen announced she had lost her baby to pregnancy complications, she has revealed a heartfelt tribute to her unborn son.
According to People magazine, the TV personality and model took to social media early Sunday to share a photo of the baby’s name, “Jack,” tattooed on her wrist. Her husband, musician John Legend, clasps her hand in the image.
On Oct. 1, the couple shared the news of their pregnancy loss.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen, who also shares daughter Luna, 4, and son Miles, 2, with Legend, wrote at the time. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
She continued: “We never decide on our babies' names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
Teigen then offered a heartbreaking apology.
“To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive,” she wrote. “We will always love you.”
In his own post, Legend added: “We love you, Jack.”
For two weeks, Teigen, 34, took a break from social media, the outlet reported. Meanwhile, Legend, 41, delivered an emotional performance of his song, “Never Break,” at the Billboard Music Awards on Oct. 14.
“This is for Chrissy,” he captioned a video of the performance, which he shared on Instagram the following day. “We’ve experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together. Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling. I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments. What an awesome gift it is to be able to bring life into the world. We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility.”
Teigen shared the post, adding: “We are quiet, but we are OK. Love you all so much.”
