WILLIS, Texas — A 17-year-old Texas girl is accused of causing the death of a 16-year-old after doing car doughnuts in the parking lot of a convenience store, authorities said.
Joelissa Rodganne Hernandez, of Willis, was charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle, according to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
According to the Willis Police Department, Hernandez was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla in the rear parking lot of K&M Food Mart in Willis at about 4:49 a.m. CST, KTRK reported.
There was another 17-year-old girl in the car, along with her 16-year-old brother, the television station reported.
According to Willis police, the driver was doing doughnuts in the small parking lot when she struck a guy wire supporting a utility pole, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter. The vehicle flipped on its side, partially ejecting the 16-year-old boy, police said.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, KTRK reported. The 17-year-old passenger was taken to an area hospital and was in stable condition. Hernandez was not injured, the television station reported.
Police said they conducted a mandatory blood draw on Hernandez and found alcohol in the car, including open containers, according to KTRK. She was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
