California earthquake: 4.7 magnitude quake reported near Nevada border

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Truckee, California, near the Nevada border, on Thursday night, the U.S. Geological Survey is reporting.

No information about possible damage or injuries was immediately available.

According to the agency, the quake, which occurred at 9:35 p.m. PDT, was centered about 18 miles northwest of Truckee and 27 miles west of Reno, Nevada, at a depth of 2 miles. Two others with magnitudes of 3.2 and 3.1 occurred in the same area Thursday night, the agency reported.

At 11 p.m. PDT, more than 13,600 customers were without power in Nevada County, California, where Truckee is located, according to PowerOutage.US. By 2 a.m. PDT Friday, power had been restored to most customers.
