CLAY, Ala. — An Alabama teen was seriously hurt after her stepfather mistook her for an intruder and shot her, authorities said.
According to WIAT-TV and the Trussville Tribune, the shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday at a home on Debbie Drive in Clay. After someone dropped off the 15-year-old girl at her house, her stepfather, who hadn’t expected the child to come home overnight, believed an intruder was inside the residence, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said. He grabbed his gun and opened fire, striking the girl’s abdomen, deputies said.
