Rejoice, Netflix binge-watchers: The "show about nothing" is headed to the streaming service – eventually.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Netflix announced Monday that it will claim the worldwide streaming rights to "Seinfeld," which is now available on Hulu in the U.S. and Amazon abroad, in 2021. The deal includes every episode of the popular '90s sitcom, Netflix tweeted Monday.
Mike Hopkins, chairman of Sony Pictures Television, called "Seinfeld" a "one-of-a-kind, iconic, culture-defining show," CBS News reported.
Netflix paid the show's distributor, Sony Pictures Television, well over $500 million in the five-year deal, reported the Times, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the details. At least five competing services, including Hulu, Amazon and NBCUniversal, also had been vying for the streaming rights, according to the newspaper.
"We're thrilled to be partnering with Netflix to bring this beloved series to current fans and new audiences around the globe," he said in a statement.
