MTV is going back to music videos for the day in tribute to legendary music icon Prince, who died Thursday morning at 57.
Similar to a move the network made after Michael Jackson's death in 2009, the network is pre-empting regular programming to air Prince music videos.
"To honor the life and career of musical icon Prince, MTV will change its logo to purple for the entire day and MTV and MTV2 will air a dedicated block of his most influential music videos today beginning at 1:55 p.m. ET. MTV Live will air videos at 3:00 p.m.," MTV told The Hollywood Reporter.
Other music and media outlets are also changing their programming to tribute to the "Purple Rain" singer and advocate of artist rights.
Minnesota Public Radio's The Current, located in the singer's home state, has been playing Prince "wall-to-wall" since the afternoon.
Austin, Texas radio station RnB 96.3 is playing Prince all day as a musical tribute.
Other outlets are starting Twitter hastags and tweets to tribute to the singer.
