OLYMPIA, Wash. — A Thurston County deputy shot a woman Tuesday morning who was having a mental health crisis, authorities said.
It happened at 8:20 a.m. on Peregrine Drive Southeast in Olympia.
The deputy was called to help fire department medics with the woman in crisis. The sheriff’s office said the 57-year-old was shot when she charged at the deputy with a pair of scissors.
The woman, who was shot in the hip area, was transported to the hospital.
The deputy, a 3-year veteran, was not hurt.
