Seattle marijuana shops' Facebook pages shut down

"It just was gone!” said James Lathrop, who owns Cannabis City, Seattle’s first pot shop.

In past weeks and months, the Facebook pages of marijuana businesses in Seattle—and around the country--have been shut down by Facebook.

"It just was gone!" said James Lathrop, who owns Cannabis City, Seattle's first pot shop.

So, too, were the thousands of "likes" the page had.

"Very frustrating," Lathrop added.

Lathrop says he wrote to Facebook multiple times, but never got a written response back.

"And it's just, you're just, sad," said Lathrop, who laments the photos he lost, as well.

KIRO 7 called a couple of other shops and found out the Facebook pages of Uncle Ike's and Ganja Goddess had been shut down, too.

Facebook says the marijuana businesses violate the company's community standards.

On Facebook's website, it reads: "We prohibit any attempts by unauthorized dealers to purchase, sell, or trade prescription drugs, marijuana, firearms or ammunition."

But Lathrop doesn't see himself as an "unauthorized dealer."

"This is a completely legal business, and legal sales," said Lathrop, who is hoping the Cannabis City page will grow on Facebook once again.
