More than a dozen workers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport joined a class action lawsuit on Wednesday arguing they haven't been paid the $15 minimum wage they're owed.
Their Seattle lawyers estimate the group is owed as much as $20,000, each, in back pay since the $15 an hour wage went into effect more than two years ago.
Businesses who operate in the airport fought the wage in court, saying the facility is run by the Port of Seattle and as a federal port is not subject to local laws. The court disagreed.
Turner says some have been offered settlements that represent a fraction of the back pay they are owed.
Attorney Duncan Turner says his clients work a variety of jobs at the airport from baggage handlers to aircraft and rental car maintenance.
