One dies after resort employees airlifted in Crystal Mountain crash

CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN, Wash. — A Crystal Mountain employee, who was one of three people rescued in a rollover, crash has died.

Rescue crews, choppers and medics responded at Crystal Mountain Resort Thursday after three employees were hurt, and spent a cold night on the mountain after the crash.

The three Crystal Mountain employees in their 20s, two men and a woman, were not on duty when their vehicle lost traction and crashed on a maintenance road at the ski area Wednesday night.

A Crystal Mountain employee heading to work Thursday morning spotted the crash and called for help.

The Facebook post said, "our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends and loved ones of the three employees who were involved in a tragic accident last night."

The two men are food service employees and the woman is a gondola operator.

Crews transported the least injured victim, the woman, down the mountain to State Route 410 and met East Pierce firefighters, who then transported her to a hospital.

Two choppers landed to airlift the two male victims, who have more serious injuries, from the resort as a precaution.

Late Thursday, Crystal Mountain posted on their Facebook page that one of the employees had died.

The post didn't identify the employee who passed away.  But said, "our mountain family is mourning, yet we are thankful for the two lives that were spared."

And that the accident is, "a painful reminder that the mountains which provide us so much joy, can also cause devastation and grief,"  the social media post said.

Overnight temperatures in the area are in the 50s.
