RENTON, Wash. — Michelle Mallari, 40, has been at Harborview Medical Center since she was struck by a bullet that a Newcastle man says accidentally fired from his weapon while watching a movie in the Regal Cinema in Renton.

Mallari remains in intensive care, but she is expected to survive; indeed, she was well enough Friday to have visitors.

The Beacon Hill resident works just a few minutes from the hospital at the International District Community Health Services Center.

Some of her coworkers visited her at the hospital, but declined to talk to reporters, at her request.

Just after 4 Friday afternoon, her brother, Randy, said in a statement they are grateful for the outpouring of support.

"Our main priority right now is to focus on Michelle's health and well-being," his statement said.  "At this time, we have no comment about the shooting.  We are confident that the investigation is in good hands with the Renton Police Department."

Mallari was struck in her shoulder.

She is expected to have surgery to help repair the damage.
