Police are asking for the public's help finding a missing Mountlake Terrace woman, Cheryl DeBoer.
DeBoer, a Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center employee, disappeared on the way to work Monday morning in Mountlake Terrace.
Police call the circumstances suspicious.
DeBoer, 54, was supposed to meet a friend at the Mountlake Terrace Park and Ride lot and carpool to work.
Police say she texted her friend about 7 a.m. Monday saying that she would catch a bus instead.
"The friend never heard from her again," said Pete Caw, Deputy Chief for Mountlake Terrace Police. "She's not been home since that time. It's very out of character for Mrs. DeBoer."
Police found her car near the transit center in the 23400 block of 58th Avenue Southwest.
It is common for commuters to park near the Mountlake Terrace Library when the park and ride lot is full.
On Tuesday, searchers scoured the woods in Veterans Memorial Park, between the transit center and where the car was found.
Police don't know if she took the trail through the woods to the transit center. Search and rescue volunteers searched the wooded trail and found no sign of DeBoer.
Community Transit is working with police to provide surveillance video from the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center. Investigators will not confirm if she is seen on camera. Police also asked for the surveillance video on a specific route.
Figuring out what buses to check is difficult: more than 700 bus trips pass through the transit center each day.
Community Transit stepped up transit patrols of the transit center to reassure other bus passengers and to keep an eye out for anything that can help investigators.
"We want to make sure everyone who uses are facilities or our buses is safe," said Martin Munguia of Community Transit, "We're worried as well. We're doing our best to help."
Investigators confirmed they are searching DeBoer's bank records, her cell phone and her car. They would not indicate if they've found any clues.
"We join with many in the hope that Cheryl is safely home soon," Fred Hutch human resources vice president Han Nachtrieb said in a statement. "As a highly valued member of our team, Cheryl has many friends and colleagues. Our thoughts are with her family as the search continues."
DeBoer is a systems analyst/programmer at SCHARP, Fred Hutch's Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention.
DeBoer is roughly 5 foot 6 inches, has red curly hair and glasses. She was wearing dark pants and a dark jacket.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Heidi Froisland or Detective Sgt. Mike Haynes at (425) 670-8260.
