Pedestrian hit by train in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man has been transported to the hospital after he was hit by a freight train in Bellingham early Sunday morning, firefighters said.

The man’s condition isn’t known but firefighters said he was conscious and responding to questions after the collision. He was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with multiple traumatic injuries.

The man was standing on the train tracks near Marine Drive and Cliffside Drive just after 2:00 a.m.

The collision did not cause the BNSF train to derail, firefighters said.

It’s unclear what caused the accident but firefighters said police would be investigating.
