BOTHELL, Wash. — Bothell police are investigating after a church was burglarized Sunday.

Sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, a thief broke into St. Brendan Catholic Church.

Thieves pried open a safe and stole donations, in the forms of cash and checks, from people who attended weekend Mass.

Father Wichert, a pastor at the church, has warned parishioners in an email that checks should be canceled.

"Sometimes churches can be targets, but we all like to think when you go to a church, your donation is going to be safe and that people would have the respect to not break into a church,” said Bothell Police Department Capt. Mike Johnson.

Police said they don’t have a suspect and there isn’t any surveillance video that they know of.

Immediately after the theft, the church increased its security.
