Police shoot 17-year-old girl armed with knife in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Wash. — Authorities are investigating after Arlington police shot a 17-year-old girl who was armed with a knife.

Arlington police responded to a disturbance call in a parking lot near a coffee stand at East Division Street and North Olympic at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Police told KIRO 7 News' Patranya Bhoolsuwan that when officers arrived on the scene the 17-year-old was fighting with someone she is dating.

It's not yet clear what events led up to shooting.

Police separated the two and found that the female was armed with a knife. The teen was shot by police.

She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. KIRO 7 News talked to a man who said he's related to the girl. He said police could have used other options to deal with the situation.

No officers were injured.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who investigate police use of force incidents, is investigating.
