Everett's plastic bag ban takes effect Monday

EVERETT, Wash. — A ban on plastic bags at stores in Everett begins Monday.

Stores will start charging shoppers 5 cents per paper bag if shoppers don't bring reusable ones.

The City Council unanimously approved the ban in December, and has been using the last nine months to outreach to businesses and residents.

Everett joins about 20 other cities in the state that have already banned plastic bags, including Seattle and Edmonds.
