SNOHOMISH, Wash. — A second man suspected of participating in the killing of 18-year-old Fernando Mendoza was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
The 19-year-old Lynnwood man was arrested for investigation of first-degree murder for his alleged role in the homicide.
Detectives believe the man held move and conceal the body after the slaying, and moved the victim's vehicle in an attempt to cover up the crime.
The man is also suspected of receiving a cash payment for his role and attempting to mislead detectives in their investigation of the crime, police said.
Federal marshals arrested a man in Oxnard, Calif., on Monday accused of fatally shooting Mendoza near Snohomish.
Mendoza’s body was found in a shallow grave Sept. 3 near the 16000 block of Dubuque Road.
According to KIRO 7's news partner The Herald, drag patterns from Mendoza's body led police to a house on 159th Drive Southeast where 20-year-old Edgar Omar Alejandre had been staying.
Detectives believe the victim was killed at that home on July 2.
A witness told officers he saw Alejandre holding a shotgun that was pointed at Mendoza, who was lying in a pool of blood, court papers said.
Alejandre was charged with second-degree murder. He is expected to be brought back to Snohomish County.
