Man arrested at Bothell McDonald's after crashing stolen van

BOTHELL, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol said after his arrest Monday night, Yaroslav Levshin, admitted to taking a key fob from a shopping cart at a Walmart in Bellevue and then going to the parking lot and clicking it until he located the vehicle, a Toyota van.

Monday night, a trooper was dispatched to a report of a van driving erratically on northbound Interstate 405 in Bothell.  Minutes later, dispatchers received reports that the van had crashed on the offramp to State Route 527 and the driver was spotted running from the scene.

A trooper said the van had struck a barrier.  Police found the van, still running and in gear, stopped against it. The left wheel was broken off the axle.

Inside the van was a backpack containing a prescription bottle with Levshin’s name on it.  A wallet containing cards later found to belong to Levshin’s mother was found on the driver’s seat, according to a police report. Troopers determined the van was stolen.

Police said they found Levshin at the McDonald’s at Canyon Park, where witnesses said a man matching Levshin’s description asked to use a phone around the time of the crash.  Levshin borrowed a customer’s cellphone and then retreated to the restroom, according to witnesses.

Levshin was taken into custody on charges of driving without a license, driving without an ignition interlock, hit-and-run and possession of a stolen vehicle. Police said Levshin also had an outstanding arrest warrant.
