SAN FRANCISCO — Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg condemned the actions of white supremacists at last weekend's deadly rally in Charlottesville, VA., and pledged to remove any threats of physical harm made, and any post that promotes or celebrates hate crimes or acts of terrorism on Facebook.
In a post on his Facebook page, Zuckerberg said "With the potential for more rallies, we're watching the situation closely and will take down threats of physical harm. We won't always be perfect, but you have my commitment that we'll keep working to make Facebook a place where everyone can feel safe."
Facebook has been criticized in the past for it's timeliness in removing hate speech from its website. After a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia turned deadly, killing one and injuring 19, Facebook took pages belonging to white supremacist groups including White Nationalists United, Right Wing Death Squad, and Vanguard America.
