A Washington State Patrol sergeant was injured and taken to a hospital after a head-on collision with a pickup truck in Pierce County, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday to the crash in the 11400 block of Steele Street South.
Investigators said a Washington State Patrol vehicle and a pickup truck collided head-on, leaving the sergeant trapped inside the patrol car.
Emergency crews worked to remove the sergeant from the vehicle.
He was taken to a local hospital and with minor injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified by investigators as a woman, was not injured.
Authorities said no other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, early findings indicate the driver of the truck was texting on her phone and failed to stay in her lane, crossing into oncoming traffic and striking the patrol car.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
The driver was cited for negligent driving.
