Woman injured in drive-by shooting in Tacoma; first of 4 overnight shootings in city

Tacoma police are investigating after a 29-year-old woman was shot in a drive-by Saturday night.

According to police, officers responded to the shooting in the 5600 block of South J Street just after 9 p.m.

Police said bullets entered a residence and hit the woman. She was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

About an hour later, around 10 p.m., officers were called to a shooting in the 2200 block of East 56th street. Shots were fired into an occupied residence, but no one was hurt.

Around 10:15 p.m., officers responded to another shooting, this time in the 4400 block of R Street. Shots were again fired into an occupied residence, but no one was injured.

Around 11 p.m., officers received reports of a shooting in the 9000 block of South Thompson Avenue. Shots were fired into an occupied residence, but no one was injured.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the last three shootings may be related but have given no indication that they are related to the shooting on South J Street.
