WEATHER: Expect a dry day with rain arriving after sunset

Fog has developed in Olympia this morning, from around the airport up to the Thompson Place neighborhood. Areas of fog this morning also extend up to Tacoma. Many areas around the South Sound are impacted by low visibility, while there is a light breeze further north that is preventing much fog formation from Seattle north.

The morning is chilly, with temperatures in the 30s for many of us. Expect a dry day today with increasing clouds. Wind will increase along the coast and northern interior this afternoon. A quick frontal system is approaching the coastline, sending cloud cover across the state and increasing wind.

Gusty wind will build by afternoon across the northern waterways, over the islands and parts of Whatcom and Skagit County. Wind will arrive from the south/southeast with gusts of 25- 30 mph, including Admiralty Inlet.

The coast of Washington, and especially the southern coast around Long Beach, will have wind gusting 30 to 35 miles an hour this afternoon while the frontal system approaches and arrives. Much of Western Washington will be gusty at times; wind gusts do not meet criteria for an advisory, but gusts of 15 to 20 miles an hour can be enough to bring down more leaves into our gutters and drainage systems.

Rain moves inland this evening around 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; the rain is associated with the cold front passing overnight and behind it a change to rain showers early Thursday morning and a likely Puget Sound convergence zone along the Snohomish-King County border. The rain showers will decrease by midmorning, and Thursday becomes briefly partly sunny before clouding up for a stronger storm on Friday.
