A man convicted of vehicular homicide as a teenager is accused of driving drunk and killing a man in a crash near Eatonville.

It was seven years ago that Heidi Colvin's son died in a crash caused by Jacob Lee. Lee was 18 years old and drunk in August 2009 when he lost control of his truck while racing a car along Sumner Buckley Highway.

Colvin's son, Derrick Colvin-Laiblin, was thrown from the cab and crushed to death near the spot where a roadside memorial now stands.

“He took everything from me, and now he’s done that to another person,” said Heidi Colvin. “I won’t never have grandchildren. Derrick was my only son. I have to live with that every day.”

Troopers say on Sunday it happened again. This time they say Lee, out of prison after serving five years, was driving on the mountain highway near Eatonville after 1 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle.

A man with him was killed.

Troopers say, once again, the now 26-year-old Lee was drunk behind the wheel.

“It appears that he just crossed over the double yellow line,” said Trooper Todd Bartolac. “The passenger of the vehicle was ejected. That passenger died at the scene.”

Lee has not been charged yet because he is still hospitalized. Bartolac said one of Lee’s arms was severed during the violent crash.

Colvin says news of Lee's second alleged vehicular homicide brings back painful memories. And now she says another family has to experience the pain and loss she feels after losing Derrick.

“He just seems to be irresponsible and can’t abide by the law and continues to kill people,” said Colvin. “I’m devastated for the family, they have to go through what I’ve been through for seven years.”
