KIRKLAND, Wash. — Newly obtained body camera and dash camera video shows the moments police tracked down the suspects accused of carrying out an armed robbery in North Seattle.
The video above gives a closer look at the 11-mile chase that ended in Kirkland.
Police say it started July 11, when a family was walking home from Northgate Mall.
Investigators say a green Kia almost hit them, then turned around, and followed them down the street.
According to court documents, one suspect got out, pointed a handgun at the father, and demanded his sunglasses, while another suspect punched him in the face.
Prosecutors say the robbery happened in front of the victim’s girlfriend and their two small kids.
Seattle police say the victim was not seriously hurt.
“They were just walking home from the mall, and these individuals pull up on them, and this happened,” SPD public information officer Brian Pritchard said. “There was nothing they could have done.”
Police later spotted the Kia at a nearby gas station and tried to stop it.
Instead, investigators say the driver sped off, leading officers on a chase that reached speeds of up to 90 miles an hour.
Police say someone inside the Kia threw a 10-millimeter Glock handgun from the car during the chase.
Officers found the gun and matching ammunition on one of the suspects.
The chase ended near Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland.
Court records also show detectives later searched the Kia and found the stolen sunglasses.
Police say five people were involved in the confrontation, but only four were arrested after the chase. One woman was later released.
Prosecutors charged Prince D. Thomas with first-degree robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, and Desavion Lamonte Rigney with attempting to elude police and rendering criminal assistance.
“It’s pretty blatant to do something like that, in front of the individual’s family,” Pritchard added. “To pull a firearm on him and steal anything of theirs in front of their family is kind of disheartening.”
Prosecutors have requested bail be $250,000 for Thomas and $200,000 for Rigney.
