Two people were killed Friday afternoon in a crash on eastbound SR 16 through Tacoma near the toll plaza.
According to WSP, two cars were nearing the toll plaza when a White Ford hit a black Chevrolet. The Chevrolet then collided with a booth. Both people in the Chevrolet were killed and the Ford came to rest east of the plaza. The driver was taken to Tacoma General for recovery. It is not currently known if they will face charges.
The Toll plaza was closed as Washington State Patrol conducted its investigation. Traffic was routed through the eastbound SR 16 mainline during the closure. WSP says that no toll booth workers were hurt.
The road was cleared at 6:25 p.m. later that day and drivers can now use the plaza again. However, the oversized load booth will be closed until Sept. 4 acording to WSDOT.
