MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Marysville police officers say they arrested two people on Oct. 26 after tracking a stolen vehicle using a GPS deployment device, avoiding a high-speed chase through the city.
The Marysville Police Department (MPD) says they located the vehicle after receiving information that it was traveling through Marysville with a stolen license plate. They deployed a StarChase GPS device, which attaches an adhesive tracker onto a target vehicle to allow remote monitoring.
MPD says the driver took off when officers attempted a traffic stop following the tracker deployment. Police disengaged from a vehicle pursuit to reduce public safety risks, using location data from the StarChase device to track the vehicle’s movements remotely.
They say the vehicle became disabled after the driver tried to avoid a spike strip deployment. Two occupants then ran from the vehicle, initiating a search.
An officer pursued the driver on foot near State Avenue. MPD says the suspect briefly fell, got back up, and ran through traffic before they were able to make the arrest.
They located and arrested the passenger a short time later.
Investigators say the vehicle had been stolen from another jurisdiction and fitted with different license plates.
