A 2-year-old boy is in serious condition in intensive care after falling from a third floor balcony in Shoreline. It happened Friday morning at the Richmond Village Condominiums.
"I just saw a flash out of the corner of my eye and then a big thud," said Robert Tobin, who lives on the ground floor below the boy's condo.
He looked out to see the boy lying on his stomach, crying and struggling to get up. "He landed on the bush, I guess. He had dirt in his mouth and a big scrape across his face," Tobin said.
King County deputies say the boy fell from the balcony after apparently climbing up on a barbecue.
"He looked a little dazed, so I was pretty concerned," Tobin said.
Tobin says no one seemed to notice the boy crying, so he carried him upstairs to his mother.
"She just wondered where he was. She didn't seem to know that he was off the balcony," Tobin said.
Medics took the boy to Harborview Medical Center, where officials said soon after he arrived that they did not expect his injuries to be life-threatening.
King County detectives have been notified about the case.
