Three charged in 2017 fatal shooting of woman in Rainier Valley

SEATTLE — Charges have been filed against three men who were allegedly involved in the 2017 fatal shooting of a 20-year-old woman in Seattle's Rainier Valley area.

Police arrested Jerrod Victor Marks, Deautre D. Dorsey and Dwayne Carlos Morris Jr. for Che’Reonna Thomas’ death.

Police said Thomas was shot in the head while inside a car about 2 a.m. July 1.

Shots were fired from a moving car in the 4500 block of South Willow Street, investigators said.

Thomas was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and died six days later. Investigators believed she was the unintended target of a drive-by shooting.

According to police, witnesses told them that two cars were speeding through the area while the passengers appeared to be firing shots at each other.

The men were arrested for other crimes within a couple of months of Thomas’ death, pleading guilty to other firearm offenses. They have remained in custody while police investigated the fatal shooting, according to court documents.

The men are being charged with second-degree murder, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
