Troopers are investigating a head-on collision on State Route 101, 10 miles north of Shelton, as a possible vehicular assault, Washington State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said.
Troopers were called to the scene about 5:30 p.m. Saturday and the road was completely blocked.
Hodgson said three people trapped inside a vehicle were airlifted to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Witnesses told authorities that a car had passed in a no-passing zone and caused the crash, Hodgson said.
Tow trucks were called to scene and troopers are working to reopen the road.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
