Teen’s body recovered after cliff diving near Cedar Ponds

MONROE, Wash. — The body of a 17-year-old boy who went cliff diving near Cedar Ponds was recovered around 3:30 p.m. Friday, officials with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.

Search and rescue crews responded just before 6 p.m. Sunday to reports of a teen who dove into the water but didn’t resurface.

Officials said crews searched every day since Sunday but could not recover the boy’s body until Friday because of the dangerous conditions.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will identify and determine the boy’s cause and manner of death.

Last year, a 28-year-old Everett woman drowned in the same area as the teen.

Officials warn that people should consider following the county’s safety tips before exploring waterways, as creeks and rivers are swift and temperatures are around 50 degrees.

They also said to always wear a life jacket when near moving water.
