LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — Two teenage boys have been arrested in the arson at the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club last month that caused damage that will cost more than $100,000 to repair.
Lake Stevens police said the boys, ages 13 and 16 years old, were booked into the Denny Juvenile Justice Center Friday.
Investigators said the 16-year-old admitted to lighting toilet paper on fire in some portable toilets that were against the concrete exterior wall of the gym. The fire then moved into the eaves, setting off the sprinkler system, flooding the gym and sending smoke through the entire building.
The club received $500,000 from Lake Stevens native and actor Chris Pratt in 2016. His donation went to the teen center, which was not damaged, but the 7,000 square-foot gym is essentially ruined.
The cost to repair the warped floors alone will be at least $100,000.
