Tacoma woman sentenced for burning 5 police cars during 2020 Seattle protests

SEATTLE — A Tacoma woman was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for burning five Seattle police cars in downtown Seattle on Saturday, May 30, 2020.

Margaret Aislinn Channon was arrested on June 11, 2020, after an investigation by the FBI, ATF and the Seattle Police Department.

During the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour told the 26-year-old Channon had done “tremendous damage to Black Lives Matter in Seattle.”

According to records in the case, Channon appears in videos from the downtown Seattle protests wearing distinctive clothing and showing tattoos on her hands and arms.

Channon is shown using fire and aerosol cans as a blowtorch to light five Seattle police cars on fire.

Channon is also seen entering stores and stealing clothing.

Channon admitted to smashing windows at a Verizon store, entering a sandwich shop and destroying a cash register.

Under the terms of Channon’s plea agreement, she is responsible for restitution and will be on three years of supervised release after her prison term.
