It’s been a busy few days for the Humane Society - Tacoma & Pierce County.
Over the span of a few days, 60 cats were seized from an abandoned boat off Owen Beach in Tacoma.
Just a few hours after getting the 60th cat, 20 more cats came in from an abandoned van.
With that group of 20, HSTPC now has over 190 cats in the shelter and an additional 230 cats being fostered.
Several kittens, including some that are a week to two months old, were exposed to ringworm.
“Not only does this push us far beyond our shelter’s capacity for cats, it also adds time-intensive treatment for ringworm onto our veterinary team, who are already managing the medical care for all of the animals in the shelter.
At this time, we are in urgent need of fosters who can take in cats who have been exposed to ringworm," the shelter said.
While ringworm can spread to humans and pets, HSTPC provides all the protective equipment and guidelines you’ll need to keep yourself, your family, and your pets safe while fostering.
“With proper precautions, the risk is very low,” the shelter said.
