Armed suspect shot, taken into custody after attempted theft at Kennewick Walmart

KENNEWICK, Wash. — An armed robbery suspect was shot and taken into custody after attempting to steal merchandise at the Kennewick Walmart, police said on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called at about 12:30 p.m. to South Quillan Street for a report of shots fired.

According to KEPR News, police said a person attempted to take merchandise from the store without paying for it and was confronted by a loss prevention officer in the parking lot. While in the parking lot, the suspect pulled out a gun.

In response, the loss prevention officer, who had a concealed carry permit, shot the suspect, officials told the news station.

The suspect was later found at a home near 5th and Olympia and was taken into custody for investigation of assault and robbery.

No other injuries were reported.

Walmart reopened at 2:30 p.m.
