FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A high school student was attacked one block from her home while walking to the school bus and it was caught on surveillance video.
Just watching the video of his daughter being stalked is gut-wrenching for Michael Walker. His daughter, whose identity KIRO 7 is concealing, was walking to school Thursday morning. She had her hood up because of the rain and had headphones on.
She did not notice her attacker waving for a black SUV to follow him as he approached. He sneaked up from behind and reached her just out of view of the security camera. You can hear her scream as he punched her repeatedly and stole her cell phone
“I would tell you that is just the worst sound you ever want to hear: Your kid screaming that someone had done something so close to home,” Walker said.
Four days after the attack, police have yet to make an arrest and the teen is still struggling with the aftermath.
“Having sleepless nights,” she said.
“I’ve had to have people watch me at night because I do have nightmares and dreams about it. So yeah it’s just hard.”
Walker is determined to give his daughter back some sense of security. He canvassed the entire neighborhood searching for a clue. It was his effort that yielded the video.
“We want to catch this person and make sure our community remains safe,” Walker said.
If you recognize the attacker or the black SUV, call Federal Way Police.
