Stay out of the water at these two Kirkland beaches

High bacteria levels at Houghton Beach and Juanita Beach

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Public Health – Seattle & King County is asking everyone to stay out of the water at Houghton Beach and Juanita Beach in Kirkland.

Right now, the water could make you sick.

Recent water tests found high bacteria, which means there is poop in the water from people, pets, or wildlife.

According to health officials, the germs from poop in the water can cause problems such as rashes, diarrhea, throwing up or feeling nauseous, stomachaches, headaches, or fever.

It is also possible to get an infection in your eyes, ears, nose, throat, or skin.

Children, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of getting sick.

Public health officials will test the water again in the coming weeks to see if the levels have decreased.
