Silverdale family escapes after early morning fire destroys home

SILVERDALE, Wash. — A Kitsap County family is without a place to call home after their house caught on fire early Friday morning.

It happened just after midnight on Northwest Calypso Circle in Silverdale.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue says multiple people called 911 after seeing flames coming from the roof.

All family members and their pets got out safely and no one was hurt.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue says cold temperatures and icy conditions presented a unique layer of challenges because the water they were using to put out the flames added to the icy roads and driveway.

Navy Region Northwest Fire, Poulsbo Fire, and Bremerton Fire all arrived to help.

The fire appears to have started on the backside of the house, and then traveled up the wall and into the attic, according to firefighters.

The roof and second story of the home were destroyed.

The Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating to determine what started the fire.
