BELLEVUE, Wash. — Authorities arrested a man after shots were fired at Washington State Patrol troopers during a chase in Bellevue early Wednesday.
Around 1:20 a.m., a trooper on eastbound I-90 in the Eastgate area stopped a black SUV with two men inside for a traffic violation and discovered the SUV was stolen. The driver sped away and a chase began to the SR 900 exit.
As the chase continued, the driver got onto westbound I-90 where troopers did a PIT maneuver. The driver was able to regain control of the SUV and fired shots at troopers, WSP said.
The chase continued and later ended on Lakemont Boulevard near Newport Way, when troopers again used a PIT maneuver which stopped the SUV. More shots were fired by the driver.
Eventually, the two men were taken into custody. Troopers said the driver resisted arrest, but the passenger cooperated.
Video from the scene showed numerous evidence markers surrounding the black SUV.
Trooper Rick Johnson said the 25-year-old driver shot at a trooper’s vehicle three times. One bullet hit the upper right side of the windshield and another struck the push bar on the front of the vehicle. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Troopers say the passenger in the SUV was not involved in the shooting.
