Victim identified in homicide near Olympia

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The body of a man found in a ditch by a woman jogging near Olympia has been identified, and his cause of death is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies confirmed that it was the body of 37-year-old Jose Luis Alejo Tamayo of Chehalis.

Lt. Cameron Simper with the sheriff’s office initially called the death “suspicious.”

Sheriff’s detectives responded at around 8:30 a.m. to the 2500 block of 12th Avenue Northeast for a death investigation.

When deputies arrived, they found the man in a ditch on the side of the road and confirmed he had died from a gunshot wound.

Investigators are working to find out who killed Tamayo.
