BENTON CITY, Wash. — The Second Street fire, which began around 2:30 p.m. Friday, has spread to affect over 1,000 acres in Benton County.
According to Benton County Emergency Services, the fire began near Northeast Second Street and continued to move north.
State fire mobilization efforts began around 4:30 p.m. Friday, with resources coming in “overnight,” according to Benton County Emergency Services.
Southwest Washington Incident Management took over from Benton County Friday at 10 p.m.
“Today, crews will continue to reinforce fire line around the fires edge with the safety of crews, residents and protection of property remaining top priorities,” Benton County Emergency Services wrote in a press release. “Crews will be evaluated progress made by overnight crews as well as evaluating damage caused by the fire.”
The Second Street fire is currently at 0% containment, as of 10:41 a.m., and it is currently affecting 1,151 acres.
Level three evacuation notices have been sent for anyone living near Kennedy Road and SR 22 to the North Sunset intersection.
Level two evacuation notices have been sent out for anyone near the intersection of Sunset Road at SR 224 to Keene Road.
According to Benton County Emergency Services, the following roads are closed:
- East Bound Kennedy Rd @ 1st (Benton City)
- West Bound Kennedy @ Watkins (West Richland)
- Dallas @ E Jacobs Rd
Those looking for an evacuation center can go to the Red Cross’ station at Central Church at 1124 Stevens in Richland, according to Benton County Emergency Services.
