SEATTLE — The King County Sheriff’s Office said it got a 911 call Friday afternoon from a person in Burien who said their car was stolen at gunpoint.
Seattle Police Department said it found the car with two suspects in it.
Seattle officers tried to stop the car at Harbor Avenue Southwest and Southwest Street Spokane.
SPD said the 21-year-old man who was driving got out of the car and ran on foot.
The man was caught a short distance away by King County deputies. He was booked on investigation of armed robbery.
The younger passenger got into the driver’s seat and sped off.
SPD and KCSO did not pursue the stolen car.
Around 6:30 p.m., dispatch got reports of a crash at West Marginal Way Southwest and 2nd Avenue Southwest involving the same car.
Witnesses said the car hit a semi-truck and burst into flames with the driver still inside.
Seattle Fire Department arrived and removed the man. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious burns and is in critical condition, according to SPD.
The semi-truck driver, a 52-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
KCSO is handling the carjacking investigation.
Officials said a handgun was found near the crashed car.
