For the first time in the history of the Seattle Fire Department’s Acquired Structure Program, the department will conduct live-fire training at an apartment building.

The training of current and new firefighter recruits at a vacant apartment building has been active in the 600 block of Second Avenue West between Oct. 22 and Oct. 30.

The apartment structure is scheduled for demolition.

The live-fire training allows firefighters the opportunity to face real-life fire scenarios in a controlled setting, and the apartment structure allows enhanced complexity.

The experience is also a part of a final evaluation of new recruits into what they have learned over 12 weeks of training, while focusing on fire attack, teamwork and communication.
