Crews locate missing hikers in Mount Rainier National Park

Two hikers in Mount Rainier National Park who were reported missing after they failed to return from a trip Sunday were located Monday evening.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said just before 9:45 p.m. that the search crews were working on a plan to bring the hikers down the trail to safety.

Volunteers and search and rescue deputies from Pierce County helped in the search efforts.

The missing hikers are a 42-year-old man from Lakewood and a 43-year-old man from Olympia.

Rangers located their car by the Carbon River ranger station and initiated a search Monday morning. The hikers are believed to be on the Mother Mountain Trail along the northwest corner of the park.
