Seahawks lose preseason opener to Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 in a preseason matchup.

Seattle rested all its starters, giving reserves a chance to earn roster spots ahead of the regular season.

After taking the early lead on their first possession, the Seahawks were held scoreless for the rest of the game.

Backup quarterback Lock started the opening drive for Seattle, finding receiver Montorie Foster Jr. for a touchdown to cap the game’s first possession, the only points the defending champs scored.

Lock noted that the unit fell short of its standards during the contest.

“You know, we expect perfection on the operation side,” Lock said. “That’s something that we preach, and that obviously wasn’t there tonight. Something that we need to continue to press through training camp.”

Third-string quarterback Jalen Milroe showcased his mobility during his time under center, but Seattle was unable to capitalize on a fourth-quarter scoring opportunity.

Following a muffed punt outside the Dallas end zone early in 4th, Milroe was sacked for the third time on a wild 4th down. Milroe kept the performance in perspective after the game.

“This is a preseason game number one,” Milroe said. “That’s what it’s for. There’s always things we can clean up, and there’s things we did positive. Even if we came out victorious, there would be things we can improve on and get better at.”

Linebacker Tyrice Knight led the team defensively with a productive opening half. Knight recorded 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles, all in the first half of play.

Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald addressed the team’s overall execution following the matchup.

“Right now, our process needs to improve; that’s really the biggest takeaway on both phases, on offense and defense,” Macdonald said. “Our operation is not up to par, and how we are finishing plays is not up to par. That will be a focus moving forward, but it’s good to know.”

The Seahawks will head to Nashville to play the Tennessee Titans in their next preseason matchup on Aug. 23.
