Redmond opens its first pop-up dog park to meet growing demand for public off-leash spaces

REDMOND, Wash. — Pets and their owners now have a new place to exercise and socialize in Redmond.

The city announced the opening of its first pop-up dog park on Monday, citing a growing demand for public off-leash spaces for the city’s pets.

The pop-up park is located within Luke McRedmond Park in the city’s downtown area. The site was selected due to its large lawn area and proximity to housing, transit and trails.

“We are excited to offer this new opportunity for community members to gather and play outdoors with their furry family members,” said Mayor Angela Birney in a news release. “My dog Buttons and I look forward to connecting with our neighbors there soon.”

The park will remain open through September as city officials plan to find different potential locations for a permanent off-leash dog area in Redmond.

Community members can provide feedback on the pop-up park and plans for future off-leash areas through an online survey hosted by the city.
