SEATTLE — A large group of protesters gathered downtown in response to federal immigration enforcement methods in cities across the U.S.
The demonstration took place near the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building at Second Avenue and Marion Street.
The group was part of several protests happening around the city that eventually converged on Saturday afternoon.
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) shared screenshots showing a large crowd while its cameras were offline.
The cameras were believed to be offline in response to protesters who have called on the city to shut down surveillance cameras during demonstrations.
The group blocked several roads, holding signs and marching near and around the federal building.
The protests were among many that have emerged nationwide in response to actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Tensions have heightened following several deadly incidents involving ICE, including the deaths of Rene Good, Alex Pretti, and Keith Porter in January.
Protests against ICE have taken place in different cities around the country over the weekend in response to those deaths.
