SEATTLE — Thousands of people came out for Seattle's Pride Parade on Sunday.  It was the city's 42nd annual parade.

Seattle officers and the department earlier regrouped "to develop more robust security plans around Pride events ... extra measures will be taken in light of (tragic Orlando) events."

Seattle's mayor, Ed Murray, has been public with his encouragement of pride in the community. On June 18, Murray went out in the Capitol Hill area with his husband Michael to fight fear.

"This is Capitol Hill," said Murray, who has lived here 32 years. "This is a great neighborhood; this is a safe neighborhood. And this has been our LGBT neighborhood for decade after decade after decade. So Michael and I are out because we're not afraid and we can't give in to fear."

The city’s pride parade is the third-largest in the country and organizers expect more participants than ever this year.

Officials with the parade outlined the route here. The 42nd annual parade will run along 4th Avenue in downtown, from Union Street north to Denny Way.
