Pop-up blood donation center opens at Paramount Theatre

SEATTLe — Blood donations are taking center stage at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre starting Monday.

Bloodworks Northwest says the need for blood has once again surged to pre-COVID-19 levels as local hospitals resume surgeries and medical treatments.

To help, the historic Paramount Theatre lobby was transformed into a pop-up donor center to make it easier for people to donate.

Because of social distancing requirements, not as many people are able to donate at traditional blood centers and Bloodmobiles.

So, like other venues around the greater Seattle area, the Paramount is partnering with Bloodworks and using its community space as a place where people can safely donate.

Such pop-up donation events are held in large spaces to allow for more distance and safety for donors and staff.

The pop-up at the Paramount, at 911 Pine Street in Seattle, will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from June 15 to July 29.

But don’t just drop in. Only scheduled appointments are allowed, and donors are asked to bring a mask or face covering.

No guests are allowed.

Though all blood types are urgently needed, Type O is in especially high demand.

The process takes about an hour from registration to refreshments, after you donate.
